RESUMEN: La lucha contra el cambio climático y la seguridad energética de los Estados explican el creciente desarrollo de las energías renovables y el renovado interés de los espacios marinos como posible ubicación de sus instalaciones. Ello exige arbitrar su coexistencia con otros aprovechamientos del mar, bajo los condicionantes que impone el principio de sostenibilidad. En este contexto, el capítulo tiene por objeto identificar la contribución de la UE a la gobernanza de la energía en el Mediterráneo y, a tal efecto, analiza el desarrollo competencial que fundamenta la actual participación de la UE en este ámbito y los principales instrumentos desplegados para abordar retos de especial significación en el mar Mediterráneo.

ABSTRACT: The fight against climate change and the States’ energy security explains the growing development of renewable energies and the renewed interest in marine spaces as a possible location for their installations. This requires arbitration of their coexistence with other uses of the sea, under the constraints currently required by the principle of sustainability. In this context, the chapter aims to identify the EU’s contribution to energy governance in the Mediterranean and, to this end, analyzes the EU’s competences development underpinning the EU’s current involvement in this field and the instruments deployed to address challenges of relevance in the Mediterranean Sea.
